Integrated Care Pathways (ICPs) are commonly acknowledged as an effective tool to improve both clinical outcomes and the patient’s experience of care delivery.
Amanda Layton led an early pilot in the 1990s, successfully introducing ICPs hospital-wide in an inner-city acute hospital in the NHS. This included introducing a unitary record of assessment, used by the whole multi-disciplinary team, which was recommended by Audit Commission and proved very popular in the organisation. Through her extensive work in this field, Amanda has demonstrated how the use of ICPs can deliver reductions in length of stay, improvements in clinical outcome and embed clinical audit into everyday practice.
LaytonLearning have run many training courses in this field both in the UK and Europe. We are available to train either individuals or organisations in developing and using ICPs. We can also provide a bespoke ‘consultancy’ service to support the local implementation of ICPs.
As an acknowledged national leader in the development and use of ICPs in the NHS, Amanda has also published widely on this subject. Her recent publications include:

*How to Successfully Implement Clinical Pathways – A Step by Step Guide. Amanda Layton et al Kingsham Press 2002.
*Developing Care Pathways - the handbook (book 1) & the tool kit (book 2) - Kathryn de Luc, in collaboration with Amanda Layton et al. Oxford Radcliffe Medical Press 2000.
